The veteran post-rock trio ESBEN AND THE WITCH are streaming a new track off their forthcoming album ‘Nowhere’. The deeply moving track titled “Dull Gret” can be viewed above.
Regarding the new track, vocalist Rachel Davies comments, “We’ve been playing this song on the road for the last two years now. A tribute to the women out there who dare to go against the grain, despite the battles they encounter on the way. In 1563, Peter Brueghel painted a vision of an unruly woman, leading a female army to pillage hell. She is Dull Gret. This is our vision, our call to arms. Do not underestimate nor constrain us, united we are more powerful than you could imagine.”
“One woman makes a din, two women a lot of trouble, three an annual market, four a quarrel, five an army, and against six the Devil himself has no weapon.” Flemish Proverb, 1568.
ESBEN AND THE WITCH will release their new album ‘Nowhere’ on November 16. The fifth full-length in eight years from the prolific trio, ‘Nowhere’ is at once dense, shadowy, and inspired. Rachel Davies powerful voice is a clarion call leading the way through a storm of forceful movements and riffs. ESBEN AND THE WITCH are still evolving toward the height of their powers, and ‘Nowhere’ furthers all facets of their dark and stormy heavy rock.
‘Nowhere’, hailed as “a return to the source, a means of re-connecting with what’s important, with what’s vital.” (Clash Music) is available for pre orders across multiple formats here: https://shopusa.season-of-mist.com/list/esben-nowhere/.

Named after a popular Danish fairy tale, ESBEN AND THE WITCH (Rachel Davies (vocals, bass), Thomas Fisher (guitar), and Daniel Copeman (drums, electronics)) were formed in Brighton, UK in 2008. Following the release of three critically acclaimed full-lengths released on Matador Records and the band’s own imprint, Nostromo Records, ESBEN AND THE WITCH have refined a truly inimitable approach to dark rock. The band’s music, which has been heralded as “Radiohead without the mithering, goth stripped of unnecessary melodrama” (NME), and “seductive, terrifying stuff. It casts a spell.” (Stereogum) has propelled them to worldwide acclaim, with the band touring the world over and establishing themselves as an outstanding live force.
